Gordon Mathews
Board Co-Chair
Gordon is a New Hampshire native, and he and his wife Tiffany, a former Board member, have lived in Keene for seven years, and their two daughters have attended Gathering Waters since 2021. Gordon's connection to Waldorf education goes back to his grandmother, who was a founding class member of the High Mowing School in 1942. Gordon and Tiffany have valued the opportunity for their daughters to experience a similarly-inspired Waldorf education generations later at Gathering Waters, and the opportunity to contribute to the school's growth.
In his free time Gordon enjoys working to restore a historic 1700's farmstead where the family lives in Keene, and participating in all manner of family outdoor activities.
Gordon works as COO and in-house counsel at a Vermont-based telecommunications company, and brings that expertise to his work with the Board. Gordon earned a BA in poli sci/journalism from UNH, a master's in environmental policy from UPenn, and a JD from Vermont Law School.
Gordon believes the inspiration his grandmother recalled, in a 60th anniversary writing of High Mowing's founder to the inaugural class, rings true today for the community of a young school like Gathering Waters: "She (Mrs. Emmett) made clear to us that it was not her school but our school. It was everyone's task to build, everyone's duty to help. It was up to us, from the youngest to the oldest, from the cook in the kitchen to the maintenance man, to be part of the crew. She told us that we all must follow one main rule: Whatever you do, wherever you are, remember that you represent your school. Be proud of it. You create the spirit of this school. Quite a challenge!"
